Wardrobe Detox: Post - Lockdown
It has been an entire year since our last detox article: ‘Wardrobe Lockdown: Let's Detox’. Since then, we have come out of lockdown and began to slowly get back into our working and social lives. I don't know about you guys, but my closet is overflowing with an excessive amount of lockdown purchases that I don’t actually plan on wearing.
So we have brought you Wardrobe Detox Part. 2: Post - Lockdown edition. Below are a few of our tips to detox your wardrobe but in a conscious way.
Prep
Set time aside
This process will not be quick, you should set aside at least a few hours to properly detox your wardrobe.
Make everything visible/ take everything out of your closet and drawers
Organise everything into categories
Separate your clothes into categories that make sense to you (jeans in one pile, vests in another, etc)
Getting rid of clothes, Consciously
Make three piles: ‘keep’ ‘throw out’. This will help you stay organised and keep track of your process. Use the below questions to sort your items into these two piles.
Does it fit
Is it in style/ season
The 6-month rule: If you have not worn the garment in the last six months or if it still has a tag on it, its time to toss it!
Can any damaged be repaired
Does it go with anything else in your closet
Now that you have your two piles, do a bit of research on where you can take your ‘no’ pile. This can include local charities, thrift shops, local homeless shelters, or you can even resell them yourself. This just ensures that your old clothes are able to be give a new home, wether that is to someone in need to someone who wants to buy it, reducing waste.
Swap Out the Seasons
Swap out your clothing for the new season. This can either be done by rearranging your closet and bringing new season items to the front or completely storing old season clothes in a container. Whichever one you choose will allow you to feel as if you have a new wardrobe each season!!
Organise Everything
This crucial step and completely up to your preference. We recommend reading our article on Wardrobe Management, which outlines a few tips you can use to organise your wardrobe!
Repeat Every 6 Months
As we go though our daily lives, it can be so easy for our wardrobes to get out of hand and next thing yo know, our closet is overflowing with clothes we never wear. Due to this, we recommend to detox your wardrobe every six months, ensuring a continuously manageable wardrobe.
