How To Manage Your Wardrobe Better
We know that most of us have a hard time managing organised wardrobes. One day we deep clean and organise our entire closets then three weeks later it's back to the same disaster we started with. Luckily, Style Concierge is here to bring you five quick tips to help manage your closets year-round. Here's to no more messy closets!
But, first, let's get to the root of messy closets. There is no one definitive cause for why we have a hard time keeping our closets organised however, to be able to manage a wardrobe properly we should first identify at least a few possible causes of the problem.
You have too many unused clothes
You don’t know how to store your clothes properly
You don’t have enough space
You avoid cleaning out your closet
Review Your Closet Before Each Season
It is very important to take stock of what is in your closet each season while also detoxing it of unwanted items - read our Wardrobe Detox article if your closet needs a deeper clean. Here are a few questions to ask yourself when reviewing your wardrobe:
Do I love it
Does it fit/ is it flattering
Is it damaged
Does it represent me and the image I want to portray
After asking yourself these questions for each item in your closet, begin to transition the in-season items to the front and either store the off-season items in the back of your closet or in storage containers.
Create More Space
There are many creative ways to increase space in your wardrobe. If you have an extra tiny closet space then have a look at our article How to Organise a Small Wardrobe. However, if you have a bit more space you can do this by:
Hanging drawers
Stick on hooks
Shoe racks
Storage containers
Continuously Edit Your Wardrobe
This essentially can look like the one-in-one-out policy; buying one piece but making sure you throw an old one out. Doing this can be very difficult but it will allow you to continuously have stock of what’s in your wardrobe and what should be thrown out.
Buy For Quality Not Quantity
Although it is nice to open your closet and see it full of clothes, it is not practical (especially if you are not wearing them all or if some of them will be ruined after one wash!). Although this may sound a bit pricy, in the long run, purchasing quality clothing is more cost-efficient as it will last you much longer. Doing this also means that we have more items in our closets that we absolutely love and want to wear all of the time.
Maintain Your Closet
After you have organised your closet, make sure it stays that way and you are keeping track of what's going in and out. This may also look like discarding old habits and adopting new ones. For example, instead of haphazardly dropping clothes on the floor after wearing them; you take a few extra minutes to hang them back up.
