Highlights: Paris Couture Week S/S 2024
Written by Amiya B
While it may seem like the year has only just begun, we are already amid Spring/Summer Fashion 2024. Starting off glamorous with Haute Couture Week in Paris, the ramp witnessed a myriad of themes, all of which highlighted stylistic opulence. Some fashion houses paid homage to their iconic branded imagery while others experimented with futuristic dramatism. That being said, this year’s Couture Week did not disappoint. A common thread among most of the couture collections this season is the authentic fashioning of femininity. Without further ado, this is our highlight reel of the best shows to grace Paris Couture Week 2024.
1. Schiaparelli
Schiaparelli stuns yet again with their Haute Couture collection striking up conversations at this year’s couture week. This collection can only be described as a monochromatic journey taking us through their timeline from past to present and the future. From the dresses intricately designed using motherboards to an actual robot that adorned Maggie Maurer as she walked the runway, Schiaparelli is always pushing the boundaries of fashion.
2. Chanel
Chanel will always be a timeless fashion house and their couture show this season only proved that the brand will forever retain its iconic flair. The creamy blush tones and Chanel coded silhouettes displayed feminine themes on the runway. The ballet inspired collection by Virginie Viard featured bows, flowers and lace that perfectly complimented the presentation.
3. Jean Paul Gaultier
Simone Rocha’s collection for Jean Paul Gaultier’s couture fashion show represented sensual femininity at its finest. Almost out of a fantasy, the avant-garde line was boldly ethereal, undoubtedly living up to the fashion industry’s expectations of the designer. Fans of Rocha’s work (us included) were excited when it was revealed late last year that she would be a guest designer for the label’s haute couture show and now having witnessed the exhibition, we are happy to see Rocha receive the roses she deserves.
4. Alaïa
Alaïa’s couture line boasts simplicity and purity within the designs of each and every article of apparel. Pieter Mulier stated that this collection is influenced by the curves of women and the beauty that lies within it. Interestingly, the entire line presented at Alaïa’s couture show has been created using a single merino wool yarn. This Ready-To-Wear line is as light as it is airy and is bound to be a hit once off the runway.
5. Miss Sohee
Miss Sohee’s couture collection is one that will grab and hold attention for some time to come. Playing on the artistry of antique fashion, Miss Sohee was inspired by the beauty in old, neglected objects. Delicious coloured fabrics and exploratory modifications on traditional silhouettes, there’s no doubt about why this couture show is one of our favourites of the season.
6. Gaurav Gupta
Gaurav Gupta’s theme for the 2024 Haute Couture Week was titled Aarohanam, the Sanskrit word for ascension. The collection itself seems to take us through swirling silhouettes and bold colourism. Hues of red, grey, white and black flooded the runway during Gupta’s unveiling of this couture collection. Personally, we could not keep our eyes off the gorgeous bronze-gold embellishments that accessorised the couture line.
