Intro: Managing Your Wardrobe

IMG_6458.JPG

Managing your wardrobe isn’t the easiest thing to do or keep up. There are a lot of reasons including where to even begin - you may end finding yourself getting rid of ‘unnecessary’ items that in fact should be kept or vice versa - but besides this, the major one is always time. Finding time to start is where it all begins, keeping in mind you do not necessarily have to finish it all in one day.Try to change the perspective of this into a positive one, in that way maybe you will find yourself partially enjoying it.

Though we do provide this service we would also like to give you our five step rule in keeping it up once we are done with managing and reorganising your wardrobe. The many comments we do encounter are those of that, it is relieving and aesthetically pleasing to know where every item is. Also depending on your wardrobe style, we do not necessarily have to make it the box standard reorganised wardrobe - your entire wardrobe if you wish could potentially be an outfit builder for you. In this way you will be able to get two of our services in one and are able to mix and match as you please or see fit.

  1. Colour Blocking - We recommend that you first start with assorting your wardrobe through colour organisation on the basis of the fact that items can become lost amongst other colours and perhaps for example you are not able to find the baby pink graphic shirt you have been looking for, for quite some time. Depending on the colour palette of your wardrobe we recommend that you start from the right hand side with your lighter colour - white being your first colour and then descending to your darker colours - black would initially be your last colour block. This can also be applied to your shoe collection.

  2. Garment Styles - Your second step after colour blocking will be sorting your wardrobe into different styles. What we mean by this is by organising your garments by lighter item for example a shirt/blouse to dresses (trousers for men), then trousers, lightweight jackets (or blazers for men) and lastly coats - if you could potentially keep your coats and heavy weight jackets separate from your lighter weight items then we recommend that you do so. In this way your wardrobe will not look so overwhelmed with heavy like clothing amongst lighter weight clothing. As for your shoe collection, it is best you begin with your heel collection or formal shoes for men (starting with those you do not use the most) descending to flat shoes or trainers/sneakers for men, as these are likely the styles you use the most and are in a reachable location.

  3. Folding Techniques - This isn't entirely enjoyable for those who may not know how to fold, or if they do, they do not enjoy doing it at all. The key to this is following the first and second step. Items that should be folded in your wardrobe should be t-shirts, knitwear and jeans. These categories do not necessarily need to be hung (unless delicate i.e cashmere, silk etc.) as you want to create space and organisation within your wardrobe, again without the whole factor of it being overwhelmed. For this step we will go into greater detail on our next post, and in this way we will show you the best techniques of folding neatly and items sitting as flat as possible whilst creating space and making it ‘aesthetically’ pleasing.

  4. Wardrobe Division - Divide your wardrobe according to clothes, shoes, handbags and lastly accessories/jewellery. Especially for jewellery we advice that you have an organisation draw so to speak for your jewellery and/or watches for men. This will create an ease for you to be able to find whatever jewellery, watch or accessory you are searching for - providing you have this it will be no thought at all to place back in its place after use.

  5. Hangers - Always use slim, slender and sturdy hangers and the style that is recommended is velvet hangers. The reason for using slim and slender hangers is because it will give you more wardrobe space plus using steady hangers will mean you do not need to purchase different hangers for different styles and you can have some coercion in your wardrobe. There are some hangers that we recommend that you can find in the link within this article that will look great and do a great job. (Amazon)

P.S

Photos - This step is not entirely necessary but for those who would like to keep their wardrobe in order, we would also recommend that you take pictures of your wardrobe. This is so when you find yourself having to either fully reorganise or partial reorganise your wardrobe it will be easier for you to follow what we have either done for you or what you have managed to complete yourself. You can get into practice of this and it will become like second nature for you.
