The "Must Haves" When Designing Your Dream Wardrobe

Pianca

Hi Readers!

During this lockdown you maybe looking at things in more detail i.e. your wardrobe. Where to get started is even more terrifying, as you may have all the ideas in your mind but not sure on how to narrow it down in order to have your Dream Wardrobe. We advise you by asking your self what does your current wardrobe have that you like and what other fundamentals does it need in order to be PERFECT!

The great way of looking at this, is as though it is a blank canvas. If you either have a walk-in or a fitted wardrobe, this article will help and guide you through your wardrobe journey.

  1. Are you redesigning or designing a walk-in or fitted wardrobe?

Although we can not be with you during this lockdown, we sure can still assist you on your wardrobe journey to designing your dream wardrobe. First thing is first, are you redesigning or designing a new complete wardrobe? Is your fitted wardrobe space being converted into a walk in wardrobe? They maybe many questions running through your mind without any answer. Besides the few already mentioned, you will also want to check what colour scheme you like? For fitted wardrobes, what style of sliding doors would you like? i.e. glass, wood and etc. With that vision in mind, how much of it can be realised - although anything is practically possible - less is also more.

P.S. You can still book virtual appointments with us via the booking page.

  2. What style of Wood would you recommend?

We advise the best style of wood to use is Oak, as it is durable and has a nice finish to it. Other woods to consider are also Mahogany, Maple and Birch. The factors of these wood types to use purely comes down to which furniture or wardrobe designer you are using depending on your budget. A few things to bear in mind is that, if you have children, to make sure it is child friendly - for all those drawings they may do all over the house - you will want to make sure to invest in a style of wood that you can easily wipe down and clean.

  3. How many draws and/or shelves should I consider?

We understand each individual is different especially when it comes to the amount of clothing we have, this may also be a good time to start detoxing your wardrobe whilst you are in the process of designing/or redesigning your wardrobe. The one thing to truly keep in mind is that you want to be able to maximise all the space in your wardrobe for the old as well as the new. Ideally depending on your wardrobe space especially a walk-in wardrobe it would roughly be 8-12 draws (going all around the bottom of the walk-in wardrobe) and 4-6 shelves for the top part of the wardrobe. For a fitted wardrobe you can follow same pursuit but to cut the numbers for a walk-in wardrobe in half - i.e. 4-6 draws (depending on how large the fitted wardrobe is) and either 2-3 or 3-4 long shelves for the top of your wardrobe (4-6 short shelves will also suffice if the shelves are in smaller proximity)

  4. Shoes and Bag storage - what is the best way to have this?

Shoes and bag storage - whether same location or in separate locations - can be created by using shelves in either a walk-in or fitted wardrobe. Just like the image below and the previous question to this, depending on your shoe and bag collection you can have as many shelves as you like and have a wall specifically dedicated to your shoes and/or bags. The best ways in organising both these categories are located in out Wardrobe Management articles.

  5. The almost forgotten about - Jewellery and Watches Storage.

We advise especially for those who are starting to collect watches, timeless jewellery pieces, or even have the collection to have storage shelve for this. When designing our ideal wardrobe we tend to forget about these precious and valuable items and having to purchase storage boxes for either watches or jewellery to put them in.With a walk-in wardrobe you can have a draw stand in the middle of the walk in wardrobe (like the second image below) to store this; you can also have a security lock put on this depending on the wardrobe or furniture designer you use. With a fitted wardrobe you can have them stored in a shelf located in between the hanging and draw area or in a complete separate place - whichever way you prefer - either way it is very important you have this.
